Day 12: Essaouira
Day 12 gave us most of the day free to explore Essaouira. The city is divided into three sections, the port/fort area, the small walled medina, and the "new" section, located directly across from the what seems like endless beach.
The fishing boats in front of the fort.
Lots of fishing boats.
These girls were trying to get that perfect Instagram photo with the birds swirling around them.
And this gentleman is trying to help by tossing them fish! (the birds, not the girls)
You can see the outer walls of the medina in the distance.
The exterior walls of the medina.Endless beach.
The petit taxis in Essaouira are blue.
Inside the medina.
Essaouira was a popular destination for hippies in the 60s. It was one of Jimi Hendrix's favorite places.
Cats love a port city!
Lots of kitties!
Seriously, they were everywhere!
Rooftop lunch!
The buildings of the medina are all white.
Briny oysters on the half shell.
Succulent scallops.
And a savory cassoulet for Alex!
