Day 12: Henna and Cocktail Party with a Gnaoua Band
After exploring Essaouira we returned to Hotel Dar L'Oussia. Hi Kitty! The courtyard. No fountain, so it is not a riad, simply a dar (house). Palm trees and blue skies! Our room was on the third floor. The courtyard from above. Our henna artist arrives! She uses what is basically a miniature icing pen to apply the henna design. It sits for 30 minutes and then you wash it off to reveal the orange design. Now I'm ready for the party! Our final evening in Essaouira we had music and dancing provided by a Gnaoua band. Gnaoua (or Gnawa) music is a repertoire of ancient African songs and rhythms. Peter got in on the action. And then we all got invited to dance. What an amazing end to an amazing trip!
